20" x 30" Oil on Canvas

NOTES: Carmen again. She has this anger/sadness vibe that is an extra-joy to attempt to get on canvas.

Take a look at all those little specs of light on the bra. That shit is painted super-thick in an attempt to give the viewer the visceral feeling of coarse lace. It works way fucking better in person. Or live? Yeah... Looking at it live. That's the phrasing I like. 'Cause then you get the dual function of the word "live". More poetic. (Man, guess who has been writing too much. I'm all picky with wordings now. Fie on you, Venture Brothers!)

Saint No.42... I'm missing one. I know. I have decided not to post all of my completed works on DA for some reason. Do I know why? No. But here are some solid guesses:

It could be that I am so fucking busy that I fear a nervous breakdown is eminent. To paint for like 9 hours a day is tough enough. Now add to that the Herculean task of writing for 8 hours a day (yes, the same fucking day), and you get 17 hours of work. The kind of work where you have no boss to tell you how to do it right. The kind of work where you are your own boss. And I am an asshole-boss that won't let my employees (me) take breaks or days off. But, on the upside... I let me smoke in the office.

It could be because I don't want to let all of the magic out before the gallery showing. Not that I am calling my work "the magic". That is totally retarded, and not even close to the "magic" I speak of.

It could be that I can't take a good (or even adequate) photo of my work, and I get tired of saying "It looks nothing like what you are looking at."

It could be because I care too much.

i'm just wondering how thick is the oil paint when its layed on in various parts. i know you mentioned its thick near the bra, as its something the photo will probably never show and its been bugging me for a while when i look at your work.

It gets many coats of paint. Some are all but a wash, others are a drybrush scumble, and still others are heavily applied paints. Yet, all-in-all... It's not an incredibly thick surface.

I love the idea of the lace texture being created so it's actually tactile with the paint. Of course, I have enough trouble wanting to touch paintings when I know I shouldn't.

Her expression is so fascinating.

I want to see this in person! The computer monitor just doesn't show enough... Like Saint 38 I didn't even know had a skirt till I adjusted the brightness on this crappy monitor. I really like her expression..
Her hand is incredible...and her bra! Well done.. When is the show?

Go back to your old "brightness" on your monitor. Because, in person, you can't see that skirt. You can kinda "feel" it's there. But it has washes and washes of paint over it to make it recede.

For this one, the dark parts are really dark on the painting. Like damn close to black or actually black . But when you see the piece, you "feel" what is going on with the recessed areas. I am looking at the painting now, in normal light, and I can hardly see the torso.

You saw my older stuff in CT a while back... But these are so different. You guys gotta see them if you ever come visit.

(The show is Oct.)
:iconmaeryair:
yeah I have some photos of that show one of Simon I should send you its cool. He is standing in front of his favorite...the one with the two skulls...and the ribbon holding them. He's got this really funny look on him. Ill send it to you..If I can find them. We will come to visit! I would love to.
