This looks amazing. I can tell you've been painting quite a while. The colors are really excellent, and I'm liking the darker feel of this painting..what with the shadows and all. My only complaint is that the image size could stand to be a bit bigger so I can see more of the details!

I've noticed you have several other "Saint" pictures in your gallery. Is this a series of yours or something, or have you just dedicated yourself to drawing attractive female saints in dark environments? :P Either way, it's all good stuff. I'll be looking forward to seeing more from you.

Yes... I paint women in bras, in dim light, as saints. That's it. I used to paint them in much brighter light. My older work was much more colorful, but it left the painting with no mystery. Those older paintings were of the same subject.

I swear I will stop painting this "ideal" when I paint a good one.

very nice. i especially like the concern/unease in her exression, very emotive. Your caustic attitude is also great to hear as this site is primarily depressed kids and people jerking each other off.

There is an ass-load of "posturing" in here. But I have found a few people that really want to get better at their chosen skill. It just makes it harder when you have to waste time navigating through so much "amateur hour".

Crap... I'm gonna come off as an elitist. Ahhh who cares, people know what/who we are talking about. And none of them are on this page anyway.

agreed. and seconded. personally i will not rest until im dead. been at it for just a whle and its fun and encouraging to watch your self getting better. currently spending time being aggravated at noses...
any tips on depth and surface in skin tones (w/regard to lighting, direct and inderect) would be most appreciated.
thanks

Best question ever! You have to answer that one yourself. We all want a different surface. But that is the ultimate question. Right now, I am obsessed with surface. The actual paint on the canvas, the object that is a painting..that is surface. That is why I paint. C'mon, ya think I don't long for the ease and safety of digital painting? An alt-Z function alone would save my heart from breakage. But where is the object? Where is the surface? That thing that ages, and gets the patina of yellowed time... That is what I show up for. Every painter gets to the point where anatomy is taken as simplistic, where light and shadow are a cakewalk, where composition is second nature.... What is left? Surface. And Rembrandt showed us that surface can be a thing of such unfathomable beauty... That asshole has a fucking huge pair of shoes. Rembrandt makes me small, makes me remember that I will always be a student. Man, I hope I get good enough that my legacy makes some future artist strive to kick my ass. That is better than fame and fortune -- that is transcendence. But... I got a long way to go. And if I make it there, I don't think I will recognize it. I need failure, I need the redemption from it.

very beauiful work.. oh i wish i could paint as well as you...lol.. maybe someday..

also about ur comment on you titling the picture wrong- right under the painting with all those buttons there is one that says edit deviation and you can edit the title and call it saint no. 30 instead.. :)
:icondoc-hammer:
See... I had no idea you could do that. And, I will do just that! Thanks for the tip. Now, since you are all extra-helpful, maybe you could explain the "friends list". I see no way to add any "friends", yet I seem to be added as a friend by others. I feel like it's my first day at a new school.
:iconbrittlovesbill:
:) If you deviantwatch someone it will take you to this place where you can check if you want to be notified of there deviations, scraps, journals, or if you want to add them as friends.. if you check the friends box it should add them to your friends list.

You can also get to it my clicking your message centre and clicking the messages tab then on the right side of the screen theres a column that says my account and you click manage friends and you can do it that way as well..

hope i helped you.. im not that good at explaining things..lol
