Artist's Comments

I thought this would be interesting to some of you. Because I use this site for my paintings, I have some reluctancy here (and that is why this is a "scrap"). But I decided to show some of this because I don't want you guys to think I am all "paint only". It's so damn far from the truth. I was able to draw in Adobe Illustrator before I could with a pen.

So... If you have ever wondered who does the little graphic nonsense (nobody ever gives a shit about) on the Venture Brothers... Well, that crap falls on me. I guess I shouldn't say "falls" on me, because I kinda pull the pile down on myself. I am all extra persnickety about these little details. And... so is Jackson. We love to get this kinda crap "right". Jackson has come to save these little graphic jobs for me to do. Why? Because I am a nut who will spend way too much time on it, and do it for free. If I don't do it, I see the results of a little gem in the making left in the hands of an overworked animator, and I flip-out, like a child... "Ahhh, come on! It should be way more cool than that!" So I do it myself. You guys will never understand how much little pieces of shit Jackson and I have to do ourselves... Thankless crap. Yet... It's worth it. Isn't it? We think so.

This is Brock's OSI "license to kill" that I made for "Midlife Chrysalis". That was the first episode Jackson and I wrote together, so I have warm feelings for that episode. I didn't draw the picture of Brock. If you want that, ask Jackson... The guy draws the "definitive" Brock. I am a portrait painter (x-graphic artist)... If I ever do a portrait of Patrick Warburton, I may have a crack at drawing Brock. But I don't think I have a chance (or the desire) to get Patrick into a bra.

All done in adobe Illustrator 10... No clip art is EVER used.

Wow, I'm really surprised to learn that you went from digital to traditional (if that is what you meant), that's interesting. And yes, it does pay off that you do so much work. You should be proud that you get involved with all the little details that are important to you, and still manage to come out with an excellent show. Most people would only manage to get the details down, and who wants to see a shitty show with excellent arbitrary details? Ok, so probably the people who watch most of the other shows on Adult Swim would, but THAT's not your audience!
:iconthegaijin:
Most of the people who watch Adult Swim are watching it for Inuyasha.

I don't think details are their primary concern. (point of fact their primary concern is CUTE DEMON DOG BOYS and bad anime)

Something tells me someone is going to print that out and try to use it after changing the name/Photo. That someone? Good old Habitual Flippancy, that's who!!

Huh, I was little confused to see this in my Deviant Watch thinger and then I remembered you had something to do with the cartoon I've never seen becaues I have no T.V. ... That's an interesting transition, starting with the digital stuff. I myself started and only really do traditional media (though isn't it all digital once we scan/photograph/upload it?) and I'm having a Hell of a time learning to do otherwise. But I keep thinking "this would save a fortune on art suplpies" and make pathetic attempts.

Damn, now I want to see your cartoon! Again, no television, but when I did I was a big fan of adult swim.
